What is SMS or Text Messaging?
Short Message Service allows you to send and receive email on your digital phone! You can also receive news, weather, sports, instant message notification and other types of Internet alerts automatically.
Text message can be sent:

Mobile to Landline using the 10-digit landline number

Text messages, which are converted to voice, can be sent to any landline phone in the United States. You will also receive a text message on your mobile phone when a response is sent back to you.

The phone must receive a digital signal in order for the message waiting indicator and short messages to be displayed.
