FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 03–20-12: Jamestown, Cal­i­for­nia. Golden State Cel­lu­lar announces recent place­ment of a tem­po­rary cell site, or cell on wheels (COW), at the CAL FIRE Acad­emy in Ione. As Golden State Cel­lu­lar is the local area cell ser­vice com­pany that pro­vides roam­ing for Ver­i­zon, CAL FIRE made the request as a way to improve Ver­i­zon Cel­lu­lar cov­er­age at the Acad­emy to sup­port a new train­ing pro­gram being devel­oped, designed to improve response to haz­ardous sit­u­a­tions. Accord­ing to CAL FIRE, the new train­ing course, AAIM, is a CAL FIRE led multi-agency, multi-discipline and fed­er­ally funded pro­gram which will assist Inci­dent Man­age­ment Teams when deal­ing with wild­land fires and all-hazards emer­gency inci­dents locally and nation­wide. Golden State Cel­lu­lar and CAL FIRE have worked together in the past on COW place­ment in sup­port of fire­fight­ing oper­a­tions in remote areas.
